A list of the best parks in Chalotte (2023)
Freedom Park
Address: 1900 East Blvd.
Located right by Meyers park and Dilworth, Freedom park is knows as the "Central Park" of Charlotte. It has been the usual go to for many Charlotte resident looking for a nice and easy walk in a beautiful park.
It is at the top of our list because of the size and the amenities of the park. There are baseball fields, sand volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts, a music pavilion, an NFL Play60 kid zone, trails for walking or biking, a garden, and even a 7 acre lake.
Romare Bearden Park
Address: 300 S. Church St.
Opened in 2013, this park is located right in Uptown Charlotte and has 5.4 acres to walk around and enjoy the gardens and uptown scenery. It is close to the Bank of America stadium and Trust field (knights stadium) and has a pretty large water fountain to keep you cool on those hot summer days.
It has two open fields for kids (or adults) to run around and have fun, plenty of benches and seating areas, restroom and water fountains, and they also have a stage where they will host festivals or concerts through out the year. Also, if you are hungry there are restaurants nearby that have food you can pickup and bring back to the park.
First Ward ParkAddress: 301 E. 7th St.
This Park is also located near uptown Charlotte and is structured similar to Romare Bearden. There is a waterfall, plenty of gardens and seating areas, and even a workout station if you are looking to get in a pump while going on a run. This Charlotte park does not host as many music events as the one mentioned above, but does host Sounds of Summer, an event that has plenty of concerts for free.
If you are looking for food, the 7th street market which is just a block away has a few options ranging from pizza to açaí bowls.
Latta ParkAddress: 601 East Park Ave.
This Charlotte park is one of our favorites to go and play pickup basketball or tennis. The court is hornets themed with 6 total baskets and on any given day there should be people running games. There is also a volleyball court and a playground for kids to run around and exert all their energy.
This park is located in Dilworth and have plenty of walking trails and tennis courts, and don't worry, if you don't have anyone to play with there are pickup tennis matches on Saturday mornings (Dilworth tennis group)
Frazier Park1201 West Fourth St. Ext.
This is the best park in Charlotte for dog lovers. It has a 1.3 acre fenced in dog park where you can let your dog off the leash and it can go play and meet new friends. Although it has the large dog park, It is not the biggest park in Charlotte, but it connects to the Irwin Creek Greenway if you are looking for a nice walk in nature.
Midwood Park2100 Wilhelmina Ave
Midwood Park is located in the heart of Plaza Midwood and has plenty of open grass areas for outside activities, a basketball court, 2 playgrounds , 2 baseball fields, and plenty of shaded areas for those hotter days.
Lake Norman State Park759 State Park Rd.
Lake Norman State Park is a little further from the city but we had to include it in our list because it is such a popular destination for people living or visiting Charlotte.
It is located right on Lake Norman and has a boat ramp, designated camping areas, and a public beach where you can swim and lay out in the sun and also a 30.5 mile trail for biking.
